It is the oldest church in Laxenburg, still occasionally used for ecclesiastical ceremonies. After 1306, the old castle was expanded by Duke Albrecht III, who preferred it to his residence in Vienna. The castles became a Habsburg possession in 1333 and formerly served as a summer retreat, along with Schönbrunn palace, for the imperial Habsburg dynasty. Blauer Hof Palace was the birthplace of some members of the royal family, including Crown Prince Rudolf. In Laxenburg Castle park you´ll have a chance to experience and feel the history of this beautiful place visited by many visitors each year. All of this while enjoying the intricate garden art built on the grounds of the whole complex. The castle park is considered to be Austria’s largest landscaped gardens. The Franzensburg is a water castle built between 1801 and 1836 in the style of an old castle. The name comes from Emperor Franz, who built the castle on an artificial island next to the already existing Castle of Laxenburg.
